Special Education Teacher- Emotional Disabilities
Primary purpose: To empower students with behavioral needs to reach their full potential, advocate for their rights and inclusion, and ensure they have the necessary support and resources to thrive academically and socially. Special education teacher will create a supportive learning environment to provide individualized support and instruction to students with disabilities, ensuring that they have access to a quality education tailored to their unique needs.
Responsibilities: Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Supports learning of students with emotional disabilities impacting educational progress.
- Designs instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum.
- Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities differentiated to learner needs.
- Maintains physical environment of the classroom including visual supports, visual schedule, and strong adherence to routine.
- Assist students in development of emotion identification, regulation, and behavioral skills.
- Implements positive behavior reinforcement system and behavior modification strategies.
- Utilizes verbal de-escalation strategies to support students.
- Assists case conference in developing individual education program (IEP) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
- Writes IEPs for Teacher of Record students on caseload.
- Ensures general education staff have IEP and accommodation information on each student.
- Completes progress monitoring of student IEP goals at least quarterly.
- Participates in review and revision of student’s IEP, as appropriate.
- Maintains accurate student records
- Supervises classroom, students, aides and volunteers.
- Communicates to maintain positive relationships with students and their parents
- Follows legal requirements as dictated by state and federal statutes.
- Follows school district policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from accredited university.
- Indiana Teaching License.
- Strong classroom management and behavior modification skills.
- De-escalation training provided.
