JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To develop and implement an exemplary football program that will effectively provide the
best possible education for each student athlete.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Applicant must be certified to teach secondary education (any teaching area considered)
2. Prior coaching experience at the Varsity level preferred
REPORTS TO: Principal, Athletic Director
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Professional Performance
1. To comply with school and school board policies and regulations.
2. To comply with school and IHSAA policies and regulations.
3. To work cooperatively with the total staff.
4. To relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
5. To demonstrate professional growth.
6. To be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
7. To demonstrate command of standard English, both spoken and written.
8. To accept responsibilities outside the football team as they relate to the school and community.
9. To assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and facilities.
10. To assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for student athletes committed to the coach’s care.
B. Instructional Performance:
1. Interpersonal Relations:
(a) To practice and promote positive interaction with and among student athletes, the school and community.
(b) To demonstrate enthusiasm for coaching and learning.
(c) To demonstrate an interest in student athletes and the overall athletic program.
(d) To encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students.
(e) To create clearly defined standards of behavior and academic performance.
2. Subject Matter:
(a) To demonstrate knowledge of the area being coached.
(b) To demonstrate the ability to adjust instruction of strategy and fundamentals to student athlete’s needs and interests.
3. Planning/Materials:
(a) To maintain an organized football program based on effective long range plans.
(b) To exhibit evidence of effective planning and organization.
(c) To utilize a variety of appropriate strategies and resources.
4. Techniques/Delivery:
(a) To communicate fundamental coaching expectations and their importance to students.
(b) To utilize appropriate and varied coaching techniques and learning activities.
(c) To maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress and to inform appropriate persons.
5. Program Management:
(a) To maintain discipline appropriate to a learning situation.
(b) To use positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to maintain good student discipline.
